Pacemaker Therapy
Advanced Rhythm Management
What is a Pacemaker?
A pacemaker is a small, battery-powered device implanted under the skin. It monitors your heart's electrical activity 24/7 and sends tiny, painless electrical impulses to ensure your heart beats at a safe, steady rate.
Is this for you?
Pacemakers are primarily used to treat Bradycardia (a heart rate that is too slow), which can cause dizziness, fatigue, and fainting.
Your Procedure Journey
Step 1: Before
Fast for at least 6 hours. Discuss your medications (like blood thinners) with Dr. Goel prior to the date.
Step 2: During
A minor surgical procedure under local anesthesia. The device is placed in a small "pocket" under your collarbone.
Step 3: After
Most patients go home the same day. You'll receive a device ID card to carry for travel and future medical visits.
Life with a Pacemaker
How long does it last?
Modern batteries typically last 7 to 10 years depending on how often the device is needed.
Are there restrictions?
You can use cell phones and microwaves safely. Simply hold your phone to the opposite ear.
